One Deadly Night - Is David Camm Guilty or Innocent?

This is a book where you HAVE to read the postscript at the end to help you make up your mind and get closure. But I had already guessed what happened before reading the postscript.

David Camm was an Indiana State Trooper and expert marksman who was accused of murdering his wife and two children (ages 5 and 7). However, several witnesses placed Camm at a church basketball game a few miles away during the time that the murders happened. So how could he have been in two places at once?? I doubt all of the family members he was playing basketball with would have lied to give him an alibi.

To add to this, unknown DNA was found on a sweatshirt at the crime scene. It wasn't until much later that the unknown DNA was traced back to ex-con, Charles Boney. Was this someone that Camm knew? Was this someone who Camm had arrested in the past when he was a State Trooper and Boney was seeking revenge? Was this a completely random killing? Was Boney hired by one of Camm's former "flings" to get revenge and kill his family?

Camm did not have the best track record with his marriage. He was unfaithful several times and constantly flirted with females in an inappropriate manner. Young Camm reminds me of young Chris Watts in that he was reserved and very quiet. He also had an inferiority complex. But he gained a sense of self confidence once he became an Indiana State Trooper - kind of like how Chris Watts gained self confidence when he started running, working out, and losing weight.

Although Camm's character was not that wholesome, that doesn't mean that he is a murderer. But I don't think he actually pulled the trigger because he was at the basketball game. However, I DO think that he is guilty of conspiracy and/or masterminding the murders, hiring Boney, and making sure he was at a basketball game at that time so he had a real alibi.

Boney ended up confessing to his involvement in the murders but claims he was not the one who pulled the trigger. I think he is trying to find a way to frame Camm for the murders so maybe Boney will get off lightly. Although, he does admit to being the one who gave the gun to Camm to carry out the crime.

Camm was tried twice and found guilty both times. He was tried a third time, and he was found wrongfully convicted and was set free. I found these updates on the Wikipedia site about David Camm. Camm had some family in law enforcement, so it makes me wonder if his family influenced the decision on the third trial. His family were heavily involved in the church and well-respected, so surely Camm could not have done this. Right?

What do you think happened? Do you think Camm was involved? I don't see how it could be such a coincidence that Boney shows up and kills the family while Camm is at a basketball game with most of his family who also lives on the same street as he does. And there just happened to be infidelity in the marriage that could serve as a motive for Camm wanting his family killed. It's all too coincidental for Boney to have done this on a whim - I think he was hired by Camm. What are your thoughts?

What bothered me most was the child Jill having been molested according to the book before the night in question and no one addressed her complaining of soreness. I feel so sad for her. I’m with you on the very perfect alibi and the family now going to ground. I listened to the audiobook bit long but very thorough.
